The Process

ceramics glazing

Besides of curating and hand-picking the most exciting works of emerging artists and makers, I create my own lines of ceramics - Doctrine Amsterdam. My work process begins with a mood board creation, design sketches, research and prototyping.

I then sample the design either on the wheel or hand built, in the clay body that is right for the project. I'm using stoneware most of the time, sometimes I reach for porcelain. I also handpick the right glaze or another decorative medium, such as underglaze paints, engobe or coloured slip, for enhanced uniqueness of the pieces. Each of the pieces is fired two times in high temperatures, to ensure the creation of strongest possible product.
